  1. Thanks for joining me today for “A Little Walk with God.” I’m your host Richard Agee.
  2. Say it enough times and it must be true. That’s what some want you to believe. But what is truth?
  3. Scripture
    1. John 18:33-37
    2. Pilate: Are You the King of the Jews?

Jesus:  Are you asking Me because you believe this is true, or have others said this about Me?

Pilate:  I’m not a Jew, am I? Your people, including the chief priests, have arrested You and placed You in my custody. What have You done?

Jesus:  My kingdom is not recognized in this world. If this were My kingdom, My servants would be fighting for My freedom. But My kingdom is not in this physical realm.

Pilate:  So You are a king?

Jesus: You say that I am king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the cosmos: to demonstrate the power of truth. Everyone who seeks truth hears My voice.

  1. Devotional
    1. I’m not a salesman for GEICO, but I love some of their commercials.
      1. Remember the one with the young lady that believes everything on the Internet must be true, just because it’s on the Internet?
      2. She argues with the man next to her and just doesn’t understand that everything on the Internet isn’t necessarily true
      3. And then the prince charming she meets on the Internet walks up for their first date
      4. He’s not what she expected, either
      5. What is truth?
    2. Webster defines truth as:
      1. The real facts about something : the things that are true
      2. Truth is most often used to mean being in accord with fact or reality, or fidelity to an original or standard. Truth may also often be used in modern contexts to refer to an idea of “truth to self,” or authenticity.
      3. Humankind has been on a search for truth since Satan deceived Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden because at the moment they ate that forbidden fruit they discovered there was something in the world that was not true.
      4. Satan lied to them and we have been faced with this dilemma about what is reality and what is not ever since
    3. Pilate wants to know the truth about Jesus
      1. We want to know the same thing
      2. We want to know about God, scriptures, heaven, and hell
      3. We want to know if there is an afterlife and a judgment
      4. We want to know if what scriptures say about the endtimes is true of if what the world says is true
      5. How do we know what is true and what is not?
    4. Take a test drive
      1. Read God’s word with an open heart
      2. Let Him speak to you through His word
      3. Let Him reveal Himself to you
      4. His spirit will guide you into all truth and you will know what is real and what is not
      5. His truth will set you free

  1. Thanks for joining me today for “A Little Walk with God.” I’m your host Richard Agee.
  2. Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive. It really is true. Best to never entangle yourself, just as Jesus taught us.
  3. Scripture
    1. John 18:23
    2. Jesus:  If I have spoken incorrectly, why don’t you point out the untruths that I speak? Why do you hit Me if what I have said is correct?
  4. Devotional
    1. Do you remember the game called gossip?
      1. As many as are in the crowd, usually a dozen or more, sit in a circle
      2. First person whispers something in the ear of the person next to them
      3. The message is passed along around the circle
      4. See just how accurate the story is at the end of the circle
      5. Usually not very accurate
    2. Gossip is a game but it’s worse in real life
      1. Little fibs that are told to one person or another
      2. Can’t remember what’s been told when it isn’t the truth
      3. The fib changes from time to time because it was fabricated
      4. Get caught in the lie and then reputation suffers as integrity is damaged
    3. Jesus faced the high priest in trial
      1. Teachings were public
      2. Many probably recorded His teachings and took them back to the priests to argue about what He taught
      3. Never could win the arguments against what He said
      4. Always based in scripture which He knew better than they
      5. Challenged their authority because of His knowledge and actions to back up His knowledge
    4. Just look at My record
      1. Show me where I’ve misspoken
      2. Point out the untruths that I’ve told the crowds
      3. Give an example of something I’ve taught that is contradictory to the scriptures
      4. Give evidence that supports the need for punishment
    5. None could be found
      1. Even witnesses paid to lie could not hold up to cross examination by the high priest
      2. Farce of a trial had to stand some scrutiny for Pilate to execute Jesus
      3. Had to have some evidence and some reasonable facsimile of fairness
      4. Nothing Jesus had said or taught could be used against Him
      5. Everything Jesus said was true and right
      6. Everything the prosecutors brought before the priests failed to meet the standards for any punishment, much less death
    6. Jesus always shared truth
      1. Many didn’t like what He said, but He gave them the truth
      2. Today, many do not like what Christians say, but we must share the truth
      3. Only the truth can free us from the guilt of sin
  5. If you want to learn more about my church, you can find us at SAF.church. If you like the devotional, share it with someone. If you don’t, tell me. I hope you’ll join me again tomorrow for “A Little Walk with God.”

  1. Thanks for joining me today for “A Little Walk with God.” I’m your host Richard Agee.
  2. Two languages = bilingual; three languages = trilingual; one language = American
  3. Scripture
    1. John 8:42-27)
    2. Jesus:  I come from the one True God, and I’m not here on My own. He sent Me on a mission. If God were your Father, you would know that and would love Me.  You don’t even understand what I’m saying. Do you? Why not? It is because You cannot stand to hear My voice.  You are just like your true father, the devil; and you spend your time pursuing the things your father loves. He started out as a killer, and he cannot tolerate truth because he is void of anything true. At the core of his character, he is a liar; everything he speaks originates in these lies because he is the father of lies.  So when I speak truth, you don’t believe Me.  If I speak the truth, why don’t you believe Me? If you belong to God’s family, then why can’t you hear God speak? The answer is clear; you are not in God’s family. I speak truth, and you don’t believe Me. Can any of you convict Me of sin?
  4. Devotional
    1. I’ve lived in San Antonio, Texas for almost 18 years. Almost 65% of the population is hispanic so Spanish is a prevalent language in the city and surrounding area. In fact, in many retail stores in the area, you must be bilingual to work there. This isn’t a discussion about whether that is good or bad, right or wrong, just a fact of when and where I live today.
      1. Despite living here almost 18 years i don’t speak and understand very little Spanish
      2. I hear it everywhere. I see it everywhere, but I just don’t get it.
    2. Contrast with my living in Germany for just three years while I was in the service.
      1. Lived on the economy, not on a military installation
      2. Landlords didn’t speak English
      3. Spoke and wrote passable German within a few months and fairly fluent before we left country; primary language for my four year old
    3. Thought about those two difference in understanding languages when I read Jesus’ words
      1. I wanted to learn German
      2. Although it would be helpful, my heart isn’t into learning Spanish
      3. I took the time and energy to learn the language and listen to those around me; I asked questions when I didn’t understand
      4. I mostly ignore the Spanish I hear around me unless I need to hear something specific from someone who doesn’t speak English; I seldom ask questions about words or phrases
    4. Same is true in a sense with spiritual language
      1. Do we listen to the language God speaks to us through His words?
        1. Love
        2. Grace
        3. Mercy
      2. Or do we ignore it because we’re just not interested in know what He is saying, much the way I treat the Spanish I hear around me
      3. So the issue at hand. There are two spiritual languages. One comes from God, who speaks only the truth, the other comes from the father of lies. Listen again to the questions and comments Jesus had for the Jews around Him that day. They are just as applicable to us.
      4. I come from the one True God, and I’m not here on My own.
    5. Can you hear His voice and understand His words? If not, you might want to check the language you’re speaking.
  5. If you want to learn more about my church, you can find us at SAF.church. If you like the devotional, share it with someone. If you don’t, tell me. I hope you’ll join me again tomorrow for “A Little Walk with God.”

Today’s Devotional

Luke 12:4-7
Jesus: Listen, My friends, if people are trying to kill you, why be afraid? After you’re dead, what more can they do? Here’s whose opinion you should be concerned about: the One who can take your life and then throw you into hell! He’s the only One you should fear! But don’t misunderstand: you don’t really need to be afraid of God, because God cares for every little sparrow. How much is a sparrow worth—don’t five of them sell for a few cents? Since you are so much more precious to God than a thousand flocks of sparrows, and since God knows you in every detail—down to the number of hairs on your head at this moment—you can be secure and unafraid of any person, and you have nothing to fear from God either.

What do Jesus’ words mean for us today?

There is so much unwarranted fear in our country right now. I’ve been amazed at what’s been coming across the media since the elections showing the fear in so many segments of our society. But what about? What are we so afraid of? Do we think that the sky will fall because we have a Republican president? Will the world stop spinning because the elections didn’t go the way CNN said they would last week? Will cows stop giving milk and chickens quit laying eggs?

The fear that runs across the country is really ridiculous if you ask my opinion. And the fear would be equally ridiculous if Hillary Clinton had won the election and Republicans claimed the world had come to an end. Neither of these two individuals or their staffs have that much influence. Some might think they do, but trust me, they don’t. God is still in charge of this world. He allows things to happen, but He is still in charge. His plans will come to fruition whoever sits in what we think is the seat of power in this country.

So, why are so many people afraid? I doubt if next week or next month or next year there will be any squads sweeping through the streets dragging people out of their homes and taking them to the gas chambers. We don’t live in that kind of country. Neither candidate, neither party, none of the leaders we elected in the last few days would condone or put up with any such behavior. Both love our country too much to allow any such nonsense to take place here.

But there is something we should fear. We should fear the lies that Satan keeps planting in our brain. We should fear the division that keeps creeping in between us. We should fear the hatred that spews from the mouths of those that call themselves Christians in this time. We should fear the One who set the rules in place as to how we should behave in any culture, not just a republic or a democracy or a dictatorship or a theocracy. We need to read God’s rule book and obey the things He laid out for us.

The thing to fear are those who would tell us that God’s word doesn’t need to be followed. The thing to fear are those who lead us to certain destruction by lulling us into thinking God doesn’t care about what we believe or that a God of love would not let anyone be doomed to an eternity without Him. The problem with that thinking is that God isn’t the one doing the dooming. He isn’t the one sending us there. God isn’t the one who make the choice about our eternal destiny.

God takes His hands off of that decision. He lifts His omnipotence in that one area and gives that choice to each of us. We decide if we will spend eternity in heaven or hell. We decide if we will follow Him or not. We decide if we will face eternal reward or eternal punishment. God is love. That’s why He made a way for us to be with Him forever. But He also expects us to choose His way. If we choose not to follow Him, He has told us the consequences. There is no doubt about the outcome. We are empowered to choose the path.

So now what do we do? Should we fear the paltry issues the media seems to throw in our faces to raise their ratings and get us to watch their newscasts? Should we shed crocodile tears over the meaningless headline that won’t last another week before something else hits the news and takes its place? Should we fear these false Armageddons that society tells are happening all around us that might disrupt our personal comfort and pleasures?

I think it’s time we pull out the rule book of the One who will be our final judge, the One who checks our actions against our stated beliefs and looks into our hearts to see how it all matches up. I think it’s time we figure out He’s the One we need to start paying attention to and live up to His expectations. If we choose not to, then it’s time to really be in fear. Then it’s time to check the sky and see if this is the day He comes to take out His vengeance on those who fail to follow Him.

What should we fear in these days? Only God.
